Garrett Franzino is a Pittsburgh-based artist creating drawings that explore religion, fandom, and fantasy.

I borrow techniques from the masters to transform virtual icons into figures of religious reverie.

I explore the space between religion and fandom, their similarities, and their influence. There lies an obsession with human-centric figures and a pursuit of beauty to find god behind the work. This pursuit drives me to push my materials to become as life-like as possible, as if they are molded by the blackness from where we once came.

My process involves stripping digital models down to form, into light and shadow. It’s in this reduction that the interpretation between artifact and collectable blurs, where idolization and imitation, past and present, meet.
